The Inaugural NATIONAL ENGINEERING PROJECT EXCELLENCE AWARD (NEPEA) aims to recognise Malaysian organisations that have made significant contributions to the advancement of engineering projects in Malaysia through innovative engineering design.

Criteria of the Award

  • The applicant must be a Malaysian organisation.
  • The Project nomination must be submitted by a Professional Engineer (PE) registered with BEM, holding a valid certificate and he/she is the project leader or a key team member of the project (submitting professional engineer). The Submitting Professional Engineer has no disciplinary action by BEM and has no criminal record.
  • The Project must have been completed successfully within the past five (5) years and be in operation for at least one (1) year.
  • The Project must be constructed in Malaysia and the engineering aspects of the project was designed by a Professional Engineer registered with BEM at the time of submission.
  • Demonstrates innovative, unique and novel in engineering design, construction and operation.
  • Demonstrates positive impact to economy, society and community.
  • Contributes to environmental sustainability.
  • Demonstrates project resilience.
  • Exudes unique aspects and aesthetic values.

Eligibility & Nomination of Award

  • Eligible Malaysian organisations include government agencies, GLCs, engineering consultancy practices (ECPs), developers, project owners, contractors, associations and institutions of higher learning (IHLs) may nominate their projects for consideration.
  • Each organisation is allowed to submit only one (1) nomination.
  • Submission must include a project brief, biodata of the PE (project team leader or a key member of the project), and supporting documents addressing criteria of nomination and evaluation.
  • The nomination form must be signed by the PE and endorsed by the Top Management of the organization, failing which, the endorsement can be made by an authorised member of the organisation.
  • Nomination from non-project owner must include written consent from the project owner (where applicable).
  • Project nomination shall be confined to infrastructure and whole building only unless being notified by BEM.

Process of Application

  • Complete the online form and upload the supporting documents (proof/evidence) including the project brief, biodata of the submitting professional engineer, photographs and/or project video through a shared folder and share the link to BEM. Alternatively a hard drive can be submitted to BEM strictly before or on the closing date to the following address:

  • Submit scanned copies of the duly completed and signed Declaration Form and Endorsement Form via the respective link. Where applicable, documented consent of the project owner has also to be submitted.
  • The closing date for nomination is 10th July 2026
  • BEM will acknowledge receipt of submission via email.
  • Incomplete submission will be rejected and notified accordingly.
  • The same project shall not be submitted for subsequent submission.
